Counselor SBIRT alcohol interventions at patient bedsides are associated with preventing future hospitalizations and emergency visits and with saving money for health systems Research findings suggest that hospitalized patients with risky alcohol use or alcohol use disorders were 68% less likely to be hospitalized again or visit the Emergency Department (ED) after receiving SBIRT from a mental health counselor, compared to patients not seen by the counselors.
